I do anything they tell me to do, except the cash register. Customer service, merchandise. I work with the customers, talking to them, straightening up." WHY SHE DOES IT: "What I liked about this store was it was such a good cause. This is a thing I'm interested in because I was a foster child. I believe in what they do." THE ORGANIZATION: Making Ends Meet Bargain Center ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The bargain center is a thrift store that provides income to support Julie's House, a shelter for homeless women and their children. It is also a resource center, providing clothing and household items to needy families. The store is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The center accepts all donations. Items that are not used are donated to Mercy Ministries. GREATEST NEEDS: Volunteers are needed to work in the thrift store. The center also needs a truck, which is tax deductible, said Executive Director Pat Bourke. The store needs spring and summer clothing, especially children's clothing. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Donate clothing, household goods and furnishings by dropping them off at the center during its business hours. Large items can be picked up. To make arrangements for a pickup or to volunteer, call Bourke at (706) 836-2781. Golf Tournament Fundraiser 03/01/2010
![]() March was a very successful month for our committee. We pulled off a wonderful golf tournament to benefit Julie’s House. Our expectations were exceeded and by God’s grace we had a beautiful day for the outing. 120 golfers participated and 15 holes were sponsored. Thanks to the generous sponsors and prizedonors, we raised nearly $8,000 for the charity. A special thank you to our sponsors and donors for making this event special and memorable. May God bless you all in all that you do. Please refer to our website or request a copy of our monthly newsletter for upcoming fundraisers and events. Thank you, Mr. Kent Dunn, President of the Border Bash Foundation. Mr. Bob Fowler, Secretary of the Border Bash Foundation, Mr. Lee Smith, Jr., President/CEO of The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area, all those who worked so diligently to raise these funds, and Mr. Tom Rogers who nominated Julie's House for this grant and made a presentation on our behalf. What a blessing you are to our community! Thank you, Kenny Giet, fundraising chairman, Warren Baptist Church, volunteers, and supporters for yet another very successful fundraiser. Pat Lunceford was our Warren Baptist Church hostess and without her expert assistance we could not have gotten the job done. Thank you, Mrs. Lunceford. Also, thanks to everyone that donated desserts, Earthgrains Baking Company for donating bread, Lanier Meat Packing & Processing for donating chickens, Pactiv for donating plates, and Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Tony Roma's, Heavenly Ham, and Sticky Fingers for donating door prizes. And last but not least, thank you, Denton Adkinson, for being the official photographerfor Julie’s House. The photographs that you made at our Golf Tournament and Bar-B-Que Dinner are superb. The overwhelming support for our Bar-B-Que Dinner was heartwarming. By WJBF Staff Published: September 26, 2008 Originally published by News Channel WJBF-TV Augusta, GA -- It was fear that kept her in an abusive relationship, for over 20 years. Bonnie Todd, domestic violence survivor: "I didn't even know how to survive in the real world...I only knew how to survive by getting beat up, every day." Her relationship ended when her agressor died from an aneurysm. Bonnie Todd: "I went to his grave and I said, 'you can't do anything else to me, anymore. I forgive you for what you did to me...' God says you have to forgive to be forgiven." But, this is her one regret... Bonnie Todd: "Is that I didn't boil me a hot pot of grits and scald his behind with them, like Madea..." It's because of people like Bonnie, this place was built... Pat Bourke, Director, Julie's House: "But, this is not the only program that caters to the needs of victims." Tom Sorrells makes sure that victims are in good hands, through Allstate's Tell-A-Gal P.A.L. program. Tom Sorrells, Allstate Tell-A-Gal-P.A.L.: "Why not put value in their hands, with a good purse, to show that they are back in the workplace..." He's collected 60 purses so far, but his goal is to collect 200 purses. Tom Sorrells: "I can tell you there is not a place that I have been, where a woman doesn't have some kind of purse, whether she's going dancing or she's going church or work. That's her image, and a purse adds so much to that." So, with programs like these, Mama's not only got a new life, but a brand new bag. You can drop off purses for the "Tell-A-Gal P.A.L." program at the Allstate office on Fury's Ferry Road, in Martinez. If you or anyone you know is a victim of a domestic violence, and needs help...contact Julie's House at 706-922-5018. Paragraph. Julie's House Charity Golf Tournament 04/01/2007
