Domestic violence touches many women across the country...some right here in the CSRA. But, there are programs that help victims become survivors...including a new one that's aimed at building confidence, to get victims back to work.

Augusta, GA -- It was fear that kept her in an abusive relationship, for over 20 years.

Bonnie Todd, domestic violence survivor: "I didn't even know how to survive in the real world...I only knew how to survive by getting beat up, every day."

Her relationship ended when her agressor died from an aneurysm.

Bonnie Todd: "I went to his grave and I said, 'you can't do anything else to me, anymore. I forgive you for what you did to me...' God says you have to forgive to be forgiven."

But, this is her one regret...

Bonnie Todd: "Is that I didn't boil me a hot pot of grits and scald his behind with them, like Madea..."

It's because of people like Bonnie, this place was built...

Pat Bourke, Director, Julie's House: "But, this is not the only program that caters to the needs of victims."

Tom Sorrells makes sure that victims are in good hands, through Allstate's Tell-A-Gal P.A.L. program.

Tom Sorrells, Allstate Tell-A-Gal-P.A.L.: "Why not put value in their hands, with a good purse, to show that they are back in the workplace..."

He's collected 60 purses so far, but his goal is to collect 200 purses.

Tom Sorrells: "I can tell you there is not a place that I have been, where a woman doesn't have some kind of purse, whether she's going dancing or she's going church or work. That's her image, and a purse adds so much to that."

So, with programs like these, Mama's not only got a new life, but a brand new bag.

You can drop off purses for the "Tell-A-Gal P.A.L." program at the Allstate office on Fury's Ferry Road, in Martinez.
