Our 7th Anniversary Sale brought many shoppers to Making Ends Meet Bargain Center. Anne Foster donated and served delicious desserts. Beattie Auto Service, Top Notch Express Car Wash, Sparkle Car Wash, and PDQ Restaurant donated door prizes. Perry Foster’s Barbeque, Shane’s Barbeque, Jeff’s Sewing & Vacuum, and Helen Uzarski donated food for our concession. Rich Kidd secured door prizes and our Board Members and volunteers sold tickets and assisted the day of the event. Thank you to all that made it a huge success!
Woodmen of the World Lodge 1571 invited me and the women and children at Julie’s House to their annual Christmas Party. The party was December 5th at their facility on Wheeler Road. They served pizza; Santa made an appearance; and everyone received gifts. Laura Maioriello is president of the organization. Thank you, Laura and members of Woodmen of the World Lodge 1571! We all had a wonderful time!
The Quilters Club of Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church sponsored a craft fair. Julie’s House received a check for $850.00 from this event. The club and crafters also gave our clients beautiful hand-made quilts and warm crocheted hats. Ruth Reynolds was our contact with the club. Thank you, Mrs. Reynolds and members of the Quilters Club!
A Sunday school class from Abilene Baptist Church prepared a delicious Christmas dinner for the residents at Julie’s House. Terrie Price and Ellen Smith were the spokespersons for the class. Thank you, ladies and members of your Sunday school class, for your kindness and generosity!
January 6th a group of students from Westminster Schools of Augusta assisted us at Making Ends Meet Bargain Center. Aimee Lynch, Director of Admissions for the school, was their chaperone. Thank you, students and Ms. Lynch, for your support and a “job well done!”
Mike Armstrong, our Board President, and I attended the Border Bash press conference at the offices of Beasley Broadcasting Group December 10th. Mike accepted a check on behalf of Julie’s House. Tommy Rogers and Mike Armstrong are our advocates with the foundation and Joel Simmons is their Board President. Thank you, Tommy, Mike, Joel, Border Bash Foundation, sponsors, and volunteers for making this a huge and wonderful annual event and for supporting organizations that help underprivileged children in our community!
Julie’s House was awarded a $15,000.00 grant from The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area. Mike Armstrong and I attended the awards ceremony December 18th at the Enterprise Mill Events Center. This grant is funded by the Masters Golf Tournament. Shell Berry is President/CEO of the foundation. Thank you, Community Foundation, Masters Golf Tournament, and Ms. Berry! Thank you, Mike Armstrong, for attending and “making the speech.”
Christian City of Praise donated purses filled with hygiene products for the ladies at our shelter. Kenneth and Sharlotte Gainous are pastors of the church. Thank you, Pastor and Mrs. Gainous and members of your congregation!
Trail Life USA Grace Baptist Evans Troop 413 sponsored a golf tournament and gave a tithe of the proceeds to Julie’s House. Clay Holland is their troop leader. Thank you, Troop 413 and Mr. Holland! What a wonderful gift!
We sold pecans during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons and raised $718.00. Thank you, Mary Logan and Sherry Boaz at Sherry’s Nail Studio and Fred’s Stylon for promoting this fundraiser and selling numerous pounds of pecans to your clientele!
WRDW-TV News 12 featured Making Ends Meet Bargain Center in their “Time to Care” promotion for January. They provided lots of free publicity and asked the community to “Clean House” and donate items to our thrift store January 21st. We had an overwhelming response! Emily Greene is Creative Services Coordinator and Mark Hodges is Marketing/Promotions Director for Channel 12. Thank you, Emily, Mark, and WRDW-TV News 12!
We have bought some spots on Channel 12 to advertise Making Ends Meet Bargain Center. I worked with Fran Lane, Account Executive with the station. Thank you, Fran! The ad is superior!
